Transcript of a Channeling Session Seen Taking Place On a TV Show

 

Channeler Kevin Ryerson was instrumental to the spiritual path in life of actress-author Shirley MacLaine and he was seen trance-channeling in the 1987 telefilm adaptation of her autobiography Out On a Limb (1983).  This was an unusual subject for viewers of the three then-predominant television networks.  A 1988 KPIX San Francisco television talkshow segment featuring Kevin channeling the 'spirit teacher' known as 'John' may now be viewed on YouTube.
 
In the video, Kevin's response to a question about "what a channeler is" includes a comment about entering into a trance state and harnessing "what is normally considered subconscious or superconscious sources of communication."
 
Kevin explained that the filming of his participation in the Shirley MacLaine telefilm had been done with filmmakers taking "a newsreel approach" involving three cameras and "very little editing in any form" to document what had occurred "exactly as the whole channeling transpired."
 
The San Francisco TV talkshow presents a conversation with the 'channeled entity' known as 'John' for what the co-host had introduced as an opportunity to "see what this channeling is all about."  Dale Ironson, Ph.D. of the Center for Applied Intuition participated in the talkshow.  This blog article offers a transcript of the commentary that is documented in the video footage.  Kevin's eyes remain shut during the channeling interlude.
 

Kevin Ryerson: Hail.  Hail.

Dale Ironson: Hail, 'John.'

Kevin: State purpose of gathering.

Dale: Okay, we are on television today, 'John,' so there's a need to be brief and concise in the answers . . . (etc.; I am not including Dale's evidently pre-scripted phraseology.)

Kevin: Yes.  As such.  First: the first step towards creativity is indeed harnessing self-esteem.  By having as though a positive vision of self and the future one may have as though that form of self-esteem.  Then the individual must harness as though their talents and their resources, which are as though either active or dormant with them in the faculty known as the subconscious, meditation and spending a moment quietly with self and for self is as though the next step.  That is that which you call relaxation or, better yet, meditation.  After this, then, inspiration will come into a positive state of mental resource and positive state of mental framework.  And from our perspective preferably from the Superconscious to know that you are an unlimited being.  Fourth: your Superconscious and perhaps phenomena such as telepathy or mind-to-mind communication you may harness insights from other persons for indeed, as the sages said, 'two heads are better than one.'  And . . . (this part hard to distinguish due to overlapping utterance) . . . to a Collective Conscious and be indeed as thought the unlimited being that you are.  Harnessing human resource is creativity.

Kevin: Correct.  For does not 'genius' itself mean 'divine spirit' or 'inner spirit.'  All thinkers indeed as though have subscribed to that dimension, a dimension that is indeed as though a part of them but even more objective then their limited personality, their limited conscious self. 


Kevin: Correct.  Perhaps as though the most contemporary word 'intuition.' 

Veronica, a member of the audience: Is Kevin out of your body or um did he come out of your body and you went into his body?

Kevin: No.

Veronica: Or is he asleep subconsciously?

Kevin: We do not as though occupy the physical body.  We as though speak through this physical form not unlike as though the spirit technology called television broadcasts into the home.  The instrument is in a state of slumber and we speak through that slumber.  We do not occupy the body physical. 

Male co-host: When did you live, John?

Kevin: Approximately 2,000 years past when as though the individual whom you term as though the man 'Jesus' walked the Earth plane in as though the area that you refer to as Israel and Palestine.  Channel speaking was a member of the Hebrew sect known as 'the Essenes.'

Female co-host: How did you find the man 'Kevin Ryerson.' 

Kevin: The instrument knew as though the channel speaking in past lives.  Bonds of friendship which indeed are as though as deep and human even though they survive as though the years in this lifetime survive across the ages through many lifetimes.

Female co-host:  So you and Kevin were in another life together and were good friends and that friendship pulled you from life to life so that you continue to communicate?

Kevin:  Correct. . . .

Shirley MacLaine's fifth autobiography It's All in the Playing (1987) provides an account of the making of the ABC telefilm adaptation of Out On a Limb that aired in a primetime five-hour timeslot for two consecutive evenings.  In addition to 'trance-channeling' unseen 'spiritual guides,' subjects of the TV movie included extraterrestrials and reincarnation.  Shirley and co-producer Colin Higgins together wrote the screenplay for the project.

 

As chronicled in It's All in the Playing, Shirley had begun consulting with trance channeler Kevin Ryerson and considered with the creative team the prospect of him appearing in the film.  She recounted discussing this with him and the entity 'John' at a birthday party for her daughter attended by Shirley's agent and the three men who would produce and direct the telefilm.

 

I asked John if he would be able to rehearse and stick to the script we'd write for him.

 

He answered succinctly.  "If I can speak lines that match the philosophic framework of myself and that will also be reminiscent of the original lines spoken in our first meetings, that is agreeable, yes."

 
Shirley reported that during a discussion about the credits for the show with the channeled entity 'Tom McPherson,' she learned that 'John' would like to be called 'John, son of Zebedee' and she asked, "Wasn't John of Zebedee, John the Beloved?"

"Quite right."

"Well, isn't that the same guy who wrote Revelations?"

"Quite right . . ."

 

Shirley recalled that during the filming of the channeling scene with Kevin Ryerson and the communicating entities, "Within a few minutes John came through and proceeded to greet me according to script and as though it were the first time we talked together."  When the scene was again filmed to record footage of Shirley's reactions to what had been said, she found that Kevin wasn't able to adequately imitate the entities to inspire the appropriate reactions so the script girl read aloud the lines for her.  The completed telefilm also features a scene showing a channeling session in Stockholm with Swedish trance medium Sture Johanson and channeled entity 'Ambres.'
