Orange County Register: "High school teacher's anti-Creationism comment violated law"

The first sense of the word 'God' as defined in my New World Dictionary (1980) is:

"1. any of various beings conceived of as supernatural, immortal, and having special powers over the lives and affairs of people and the course of nature; deity, esp. a male deity"

The third sense in the Dictionary mentioned "in monotheistic religions, the creator and ruler of the universe, regarded as eternal, infinite, all-powerful, and all-knowing . . ."

Words are easily misunderstood because people have different orientations to them.  Although this newspaper article raises many controversies, it might be worthwhile to consider the difficulty and complexity of what is meant when 'God' is designated as "ruler of the universe."

It seems evident that 'God' or a Superconsciousness/Oneness doesn't so much rule over our Earth society (where humans have freedom of choice in many aspects of their lives) as much as foster the evolution of our spiritual awareness.  I've commented in the past about equating our good thoughts and 'conscience' with 'Superconsciousness' or 'Christ Consciousness' and my books chronicle how this perspective evolved.  I wonder if this perspective of God as "ruler of the universe" is one of the main quandaries for people who have no belief in these concepts.
